Hole-and-corner – Meandering between Brecon Beacons and Wye Valley

August 18, 2016 by nadel&gabel

“The term ‘hole-and-corner’ derives from an old English phrase meaning a secret place or a life lived away from the mainstream: somewhere you go to contemplate, create and be inspired.” (Hole&Corner Magazine) If you’re interested in stargazing, the Brecon Beacons in Wales, since 2012 accredited as “International Dark Sky Reserve” with only little light pollution, are one of the best places on earth. However, our this year’s summer holiday seemed to be ill-starred and – starting with the end – due to […]

Me, myself and I in the Allgäu

May 27, 2016 by nadel&gabel

“For how many people would you like to book a table?” – “One. It’s just me.” An unfamiliar situation, like some more during those four days I stayed in the Allgäu. But then there were a lot of moments that didn’t feel strange at all. It were different things that led to this one-woman-short-trip. One of them was the fact that I indeed perceived this as a challenge, an exceeding of my couple comfort zone. At the same time there are so […]

Hamburg – Far away Germany

November 7, 2014 by nadel&gabel

When I first visited Hamburg – it must be 15 years ago – you could say the journey was the reward, at least a big part of it: Together with two school friend I spend several hours on regional trains from the deep south of Germany to the far away Hamburg. Despite the lacking comfort this rail trip gave me a sense of the distance between those German regions. I haven’t been to Hamburg since (shame on me),  but I […]

Turné i södra Sverige III – Sea, islands and wind

September 16, 2014 by nadel&gabel

This was the view that welcomed us in Skärhamn – a view that I just couldn’t get enough of. So, before the daily routine has absorbed me again, here finally is the last part of my summer travel retrospective. Additionally I’ve dedicated a pinterest board to our travelling through Sweden with our favourite places to stay, eat, visit plus some other inspiration. For our stay at the west coast of Sweden we had rented one of the studios of the […]

Turné i södra Sverige I – Swedish city life in Stockholm and Uppsala

August 30, 2014 by nadel&gabel

After some silence that moved into this place during the last weeks, I am back again … with some (first) pictures from our “turné i södra Sverige” (tour in South Sweden). Our trip started and ended in a city – starting point was Stockholm, final destination Uppsala … this blog post is dedicated to these two swedish cities. (Although we’ve been to the west coast as well we skipped Gothenburg, but I am sure this city is worth a visit, […]

So hip(ster) – Drawstring backpack made from handprinted fabric

January 22, 2014 by nadel&gabel

After this recent fabric printing project I went a bit further. I wanted to try some more geometric patterns, my own patterns. … and I turned to the classic of handprinting: potato stamps! After a bit of cutting, I had made my (sadly non-permanent) “3D” stamp. Jute fabric, (black) textile colour and method of heat sealing were the same as here. And what better use for a hip geometric pattern than a hipster “Turnbeutel” (drawstring backpack)?! Even better: Why not […]

Blank pages – Hello 2014!

January 2, 2014 by nadel&gabel

I hope you all had great holidays with your families and a good start into the new year … which is already 1½ days old. Another 363½ days to come. A new diary full of blank pages. What kind of year will you be 2014? What experiences are awaiting? Who will I be after these 363½ days? … Somehow or other: I am ready! Ready for new challenges that life will bring, new places, new people, new experiences, tears of […]

Natures colours

June 21, 2012 by nadel&gabel

This weeks theme for the Beauty-is-where-you find-it photo challenge is “burst of colours vs. monochrome” – a chance for me to give this Photoshop tutorial from Katrina – usually blogging at her amazing blog Pugly Pixel – a try. And isn’t a rainbow a real colour burst, a showcase of natures colours?

Seitan – On my way to become a real veggie

March 10, 2012 by nadel&gabel

No, I am not a veggie. I do enjoy a good quality piece of meat. I wouldn’t want to live without f.ex. bolognese sauce or scrambled eggs with bacon… But, as you all know, there are a lot of good reasons, to reduce our meat consumption and to aim for a more balanced diet. An average German eats 88 kg of meat per year! And US-Americans are top of the list with 123 kg of meat per person and year […]
