High waves and steep cliffs – Costa Vicentina

September 27, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Now, in the hight of autumn, it seems weird to look at those pictures of sun and beach – unbelievable that it is only a few weeks ago! A reason more to wallow in memories… After a few days around Porto Covo we moved on, not very far, but a bit further down along Portugals west coast, towards the Algarve. At Brejão stayed at the small agriturismo Cerca do Sul that we found via the local tourism platform Casas Brancas […]

Pristine tranquillity – Costa Sudoeste Alentejano

September 20, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Soon after we crossed the river Tejo and turned away from Lisbon and towards the south of Portugal the signs of civilization became more scarce. After a short stop at the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado – waste wetlands at the estuary of the river Sado that are used for growing rice and produce salt in the salinas – and a small lunch at the impressing Lagoas Santo André we headed further south. Our destination for the following days […]

Pause and move

January 1, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Now here it is – the new year – with all its unwritten stories, plans, expectations and hopes… We started the new year the way we ended the now gone 2014 – in a slowed down and relaxed rhythm that you can truly follow only during this peculiar period “between the years”. This time the sudden – although not unexpected – onset of winter intensified this feeling of a temporary standstill. Like if nature wanted to tell us to decelerate, […]

“Something bizarrely fulfilling” – Welsh cakes

September 20, 2013 by nadel&gabel

After admittedly a lot pictures from our Wales trip, here’s a recipe again … a welsh recipe. It’s a recipe for one of THE traditional welsh foods. And it’s amazing – or “bizarrely fulfilling” in Jamie Oliver’s words: Those little cakes are so easy and quick to make, all the ingredients are very likely already in your kitchen – yet they’re so yummy. A mysterious transformation of ordinary things! Although I think you shouldn’t change recipes too much that have […]

Black and White Wednesday: Parmesan black pepper biscotti

November 9, 2011 by nadel&gabel

Culinary presents – the perfect theme for a food blog event during pre-christmas season. I found this already a bit older recipe for parmesan black pepper biscotti on Smitten Kitchen when I was looking for some nice little amuse bouche which would pair well with sparkling wine. Then I was also looking for something savoury, because I was left with a bit of a sugar overdose from baking (and eating!) some batches of cookies… (Great recipe from Nicole from Delicious Days, […]

Black and White Wednesday: Flädlesuppe/Swabian pancake soup

October 26, 2011 by nadel&gabel

Do you also have your dishes with this instant feel-good-guarantee? In my opinion,  it is usually about those simple dishes that remind us of our childhood. However, my favourite dish when I feel I urgently need a dose of coziness and well-being is this Flädlesuppe, which is literally a soup of small pancakes. It is a regional Swabian dish, which can be found in Austria as well under the name of Frittatensuppe. It is a totally easy and quick recipe, […]

Black and White Wednesday: Sourdough bread with walnuts and dried tomatoes

October 19, 2011 by nadel&gabel

And one more bread on this blog – inspired by the walnuts I picked up the day before and which joined some chopped dried tomatoes and went straight into this nice and easy rye sourdough bread. I am not an expert at all in baking bread, especially not in baking with sourdough, so I went the easy way and used some dried sourdough essence. As we are a two-person-household I only made a small loaf of bread… I should have […]

Black and White Wednesday: Meaty feast

October 5, 2011 by nadel&gabel

Wednesday – perhaps apart from Saturday the best day in the week for me. Why? Because it happenend to be that wednesday is my school-free day in the week and – great coincidence – market day! Todays outcome: Tuscan fennel salami, Calabrian hot Nduja sausage, a bit of medium-aged pecorino cheese, focaccia bread with oregano and some small, ripe figs – dinner can come. Come and join Black and White Wednesday.
