Patchwork – Another baby blanket

January 21, 2018 by nadel&gabel

Another newborn – another baby blanket. This time the idea I had in my mind was a clear, yet colourful blanket out of geometric shapes, patched together. So I went through my stash of fabrics, layed out different options, rearranged them again … until I was satisfied. I worked in blocks that I – step by step – put together. I also added some topstiching in corresponding colours. The patchworked front then was complemented with a light, but cuddly cotton […]

Balance – Felt ball mobile

January 14, 2017 by nadel&gabel

It’s already midst of January, the blog break obviously took longer than intended. Anyway, I hope you all had relaxed holidays and a good start into the new year. Mine started with a lot of work, but I don’t complain. Proudness that I managed not to fall into too much procrastination prevails! (One of my big goals for 2017). This project actually was one of my Christmas presents. But as it is not very christmasy and because I had wanted […]

One for all – Easy baby blankets

May 1, 2016 by nadel&gabel

Kids are born around us in a quite high frequency these days… of course, it’s the age. When it comes to newborn gifts I always turn back to a handmade blanket. Why? Usually young parents don’t lack of clothes for their baby. So, why giving the 101st romper which will be too small within weeks, anyway? Instead I like the (potential) durability and versatility of a blanket. It can warm the newborn in the house and outside in the buggy. It can […]

First steps – Quilted baby blanket

July 3, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Here we go – another baby blanket since this knitted one (which is well loved, as I hear with pride). And I am aunt again! And while the little boy makes his first steps in this world (figuratively, of course), I have already successfully absolved my first quilting project. For a long time I’ve had in my mind to attempt this unconquered bastion of sewing. After buying helpful equipment like a cutting mat, a rotary cutter and a quilting ruler, […]

Snug and warm – Knitted baby blanket

April 25, 2015 by nadel&gabel

And there it is, my best friends newborn girl. Of course this didn’t happen out of a sudden 😉 … so I had time to prepare. And I used long winter evenings to work on this knitted baby blanket.   For long I had admired those beautiful colourful blankets from The Purl Bee (find the crochet pattern here). Now I finally had the chance to knit one myself. It’s kind of the easiest knitting project you can imagine. It’s a […]

A crafters storage – Divided basket

December 7, 2013 by nadel&gabel

Another christmas sewing project finished! For quite a time I had this pattern of Anna in my mind. I’ve been following hers and others versions of this fabric storage basket here and here. As the examples show it’s a really versatile project – with totally different outcomes depending on the fabric and variations made. The purposes you can use this decorative basket are equally multifaceted: diapers, washcloths, sewing patterns, knitting needles & wool, fabric scraps,… the possibilities are endless. This […]

For travelling parents – Diaper pouch

December 21, 2012 by nadel&gabel

I am increasingly surrounded by pregnant women and little babies at the moment … as a result, I am exploring whole new fields of sewing projects 😉 After a simple belly band, I sewed my first diaper pouch, inspired by an older tutorial from Anna of Noodlehead. I had bought some burlap coffee sacks for various sewing projects, but hadn’t used them till then, so this was also my first experiment in sewing with burlap. Helpful are two things: Use […]
