High waves and steep cliffs – Costa Vicentina

September 27, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Now, in the hight of autumn, it seems weird to look at those pictures of sun and beach – unbelievable that it is only a few weeks ago! A reason more to wallow in memories… After a few days around Porto Covo we moved on, not very far, but a bit further down along Portugals west coast, towards the Algarve. At Brejão stayed at the small agriturismo Cerca do Sul that we found via the local tourism platform Casas Brancas […]

Pristine tranquillity – Costa Sudoeste Alentejano

September 20, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Soon after we crossed the river Tejo and turned away from Lisbon and towards the south of Portugal the signs of civilization became more scarce. After a short stop at the Reserva Natural do Estuário do Sado – waste wetlands at the estuary of the river Sado that are used for growing rice and produce salt in the salinas – and a small lunch at the impressing Lagoas Santo André we headed further south. Our destination for the following days […]

Tropical breeze – Granola with quinoa and coconut

June 13, 2015 by nadel&gabel

I guess it was somehow the hot weather these days that inspired me to this granola recipe. I had something breezy, tropical, light in my mind when combining the ingredients … yes, I had pictures of Raffaello ads in my head 😉 I know, very kitschy! Anyway, this inner picture was my guideline for this combination: airy  – and healthy – puffed quinoa, some, but not too much sweetness, tropical fruit and of course coconut. Coconut is present three times: […]

Turné i södra Sverige III – Sea, islands and wind

September 16, 2014 by nadel&gabel

This was the view that welcomed us in Skärhamn – a view that I just couldn’t get enough of. So, before the daily routine has absorbed me again, here finally is the last part of my summer travel retrospective. Additionally I’ve dedicated a pinterest board to our travelling through Sweden with our favourite places to stay, eat, visit plus some other inspiration. For our stay at the west coast of Sweden we had rented one of the studios of the […]

Summer salad inspiration – and a forced break

July 20, 2014 by nadel&gabel

Sweet Corn, Peach, and Cherry Salad with Creamy Goat Cheese and a Lime Dressing – The Flourishing Foodie I could have prepared some blog posts in advance for the time when my camera is under repair … too much additional organisation effort at the moment. So – while my camera is in rehab, back home at the Nikon family, I have a collected some summer salad ideas for you around the web. They’re all from some of my favourite food […]

Even more spring herbs and veggies – Pizza with asparagus, spring onions, wild garlic, arugula and smoked ham

April 3, 2014 by nadel&gabel

It’s still spring! It’s warm outside, the trees are covered in white and pale green and as I walk along the woods, I can clearly smell garlic now. Wild garlic. A few years ago everything had to be wild garlic or arugula – a food trend that stopped at nothing. Me included… Unavoidably I got tired of wild garlic pesto, wild garlic oil,… fed up with arugula leaves here, arugula leaves there. But I’ve overcome this stage as well – […]

Juicy – Citrus pound cake

February 1, 2014 by nadel&gabel

I know, it’s only a few days ago that I claimed that I am more into savoury than sweet dishes around this time of the year. Yeees, that’s still right, but then – when I walk across the market – those piles of various kinds of oranges, grapefruits and lemons don’t let me just pass either. Actually I am a great fan of lemon zest and juice throughout the year (Here, here, here and here are only some proofs.). So, […]

Sooour cream cake with gooseberries

July 16, 2012 by nadel&gabel

May I have occasionally mentioned that I am a big lover of sour fruits? Red currants, blackberries, rhubarb, sea buckthorn, … love them all! Here’s another round celebrating my stars. I came across gooseberries on the market and couldn’t remember when I had tasted their sour-sweet flavour that pops in your mouth the last time… It must have been when I was a teenager. We had two or three bushes in our garden – beneath raspberries, blackberries, currants – and […]

The lightness of being

February 25, 2012 by nadel&gabel

After one week of pausing I am back at the Beauty-is-where-you-find it challenge, already a bit late again. This week’s theme “Leichtigkeit [airiness]”. As there are already some feathers, flowers, clouds, blow bubbles – my first associations as well – I had to give it another thought… and found one of my latest shopping catch – airy, light lace fabric, waiting to be sewed up.
