Mediterranean flavours – Socca with olives and thyme

August 23, 2015 by nadel&gabel

It was in Diano Marina in Liguria. The travel guidebook had recommended this little town as a charming not too crowded place … which it – to cut right through the chase – wasn’t at all: hordes of tourists hustling through the narrow streets wearing not much more than their bathing clothes, souvenir and tourist trap food shops on every corner … I guess you can imagine this kind of place, cause somehow these places are interchangeable all around the […]

Mediterranean fusion – Empanadas with chard and feta cheese

October 26, 2014 by nadel&gabel

At least during my whole childhood chard was one of the most hated veggies. I only knew it as substitute for spinach, blended and eaten with potatoes. Grrr…. Then for a long time I  abandonded chard from my kitchen and table. After years of chardlessness I gave this green a new chance. And what can I say? It convinced me! Cause what I discovered now: Chard is so versatile. It cuts a fine finger in asian stir-fry dishes as well […]

Foodblogs I love: Krautkopf

October 22, 2014 by nadel&gabel

The German foodblog Krautkopf by Susann and Yannic I can’t deny that I am a visual person and food photography that tells a story or is able to express a specific mood is important for captivating me in the long run. No wonder that the moody and artful but in the same time reduced pictures of Susann and Yannic caught me. But then a food blog is not only about pictures – the recipes have to convince me as well. […]

South Tyrol III: Mediterranean gardens, thermal water and fine dining in Meran

May 7, 2014 by nadel&gabel

Apple of discord and melting pot – central and on the periphery: South Tyrol has always be all of it – when it comes to politics, geography, language or the broad field of culture. And no matter if the different influences have melted, coexist or are in conflict – it’s a rich, vivid, in-tense region. The picture above may be symptomatic for this: a perfect espresso next to a slice of Apfelstrudel – and it’s a perfect match! In the […]

South Tyrol II: Ottmanngut – An elegant Belle Époque oasis in Meran

May 1, 2014 by nadel&gabel

Imagine a stunning panorama view on palms, vineyards and snow covered mountains – all at once, imagine a magical garden full of citrus fruit trees, herbs and flowers, imagine a calm and elegant villa that breathes history, imagine tasteful and and artful food, imagine thoughtful and caring people … just a dream? No, all of this can be found in the recently reopenend Ottmanngut in Meran, where we’ve been lucky to stay during our spring break in South Tyrol. This […]

Foodblogs I Love – The Forest Feast

May 30, 2013 by nadel&gabel

Today I want to introduce a new series on my blog on “Foodblogs I love” (no, no FBIL acronym needed). I am really happy that most of my longterm favourite bloggers were so kind to give me an interview about themselves, their blog and their approach to food. As I wouldn’t count myself among the completely organised, there won’t be a fixed schedule for this feature. So stay tuned and don’t miss those inspiring people and blogs! The first blog […]

Into the light – Côte d’Azur

May 23, 2013 by nadel&gabel

There’s much sayed about the clear and soft light at the Côte d’Azur that makes the colours pop – believe everything you’ve heard, it is perfect right! There is a reason that this coast is called the “blue coast” – the blue of the sea that ranges from dark blue to bright turquoise is stunning and is topped by a (most times) bright blue sky. The vibrant blue colours are contrasted by the warm terracotta colours of the houses as […]

Birthday buffet

June 15, 2011 by nadel&gabel

It was only a few days before my fathers birthday party last weekend – a “small” one, only about 20 guests – that I had to realise that I was meant not only to help with all the preparations, but that I was supposed to plan and cook the whole buffet, with my sisters support. “Something mediterranean, but not too exotic” were my fathers instructions …  so that is what I made:

Categories: bread, dairy-free, grains & legumes, meat, salad, snacks & small dishes, spread, sauce & spice, vegetable, vegetarian • Tags: almond, anchovies, baking, börek, bell pepper, bread, caper, chicken, chickpea, cooking, couscous, feta cheese, food, italian, lemon, mayonnaise, mediterranean, olive oil, oriental, polenta, recipe, ricotta cheese, salad, sauce, spanish, tuna, veal, walnut
