Flavour horizons – Homemade spice blends

December 15, 2016 by nadel&gabel

This year, my Christmas presents – yes, almost done – are a bit more on the (online) store bought side than on team DIY. Not by concept, it just happened. Nevertheless you won’t find a gift guide on this blog. I don’t think anyone needs another one. What you’ll find here – like every year – is some inspiration for homemade Christmas presents. One of my homemade presents is this set of spice blends. I chose three of my favourite […]

Interactive – Kumpir with red cabbage slaw and muhammara

December 3, 2016 by nadel&gabel

I guess food posts around here have become a bit heavy on the sweet side lately. Although in every day life of course I cook way more savoury dishes than sweet ones. So why is it? There are a lot of extensively tested and approved recipes, delicious, healthy (mostly), perfected and variated, but they haven’t found their way on this blog. I’m withholding them, something always detains me from posting them. Not special enough, no exceptional ingredient, unspectacular look … not worth […]

Life and the whole thing – Oriental birthday buffet

February 19, 2015 by nadel&gabel

“My head is an animal” these days, bombarding me with all those existential questions: So many paths to go – but which one should I go? Is there a right one, a right way of life – at least a right one for me? What’s true about “there is a time for everything”? In which phase of my life am I at the moment? Clearly, there are a lot of answers, that one gets offered, implicit and explicit expectations, what […]

Fusion meal – Palak daal with roasted cauliflower, sesame mint dip and chapati bread

November 6, 2013 by nadel&gabel

This recipe is not only a singular dish, it is a whole menu, full of my favourite ingredients and flavours – obviously inspired by Indian as well as Arab cuisine. It’s a combination as well of different texture and temperature, that really works well: Crispy cold or lukewarm chapati bread, creamy warm roasted cauliflower, bread and cauliflower both with a nice smoky taste. This is paired with creamy sweet lentil and spinat daal and contrasting fresh nutty-tart sesame mint joghurt. […]

Roasted aubergine dip … can save your life

July 27, 2013 by nadel&gabel

I know, I`ve promised to give you a tutorial about how I sewed my little backpack … but the last weeks were so packed with work, that I just didn’t have the time and wasn’t in the mood for writing such an detailed instruction down. But it will come, just not yet. First I have this  allround summer recipe for you which you need to make (explanation mark!) – and no: berries or fruits are not involved this time. I […]

Oriental yoghurt – Sweet, tart and fresh!

June 22, 2013 by nadel&gabel

Since I bought Jerusalem a few months ago, I am in a kind of oriental cooking phase. Not that I have already cooked that many recipes from the book, but I am inspired … The last few days it was so incredibly hot that I had no desire for hot meals at all. Instead, I froze like a champ: pureed fruit, (freshly homemade) elderflower syrup, ice cubes of course. Also I bought a whole bucket refreshing Greek yoghurt, so that […]

Spiced up

April 21, 2013 by nadel&gabel

It’s back – the passion for cooking! Only now that I feel this prickling again, I realize that I had lost it for a while. The emotionally exhausting last months catapulted me into a kind of sensual and creative ice age. But now not only nature awakens from its winter sleep and rises again, but so do I. My personal situation turned for the best I could imagine and suddenly I can feel the energy for creativity again – yes!

Couscous salad with snow peas and pomegranate – grilled kefta

June 17, 2011 by nadel&gabel

I like pomegranate not only because of its delicious taste, but as well – or even more? – because it looks so beautiful: The deep red colour, those little seeds inside the fruit that look like red gems…

Birthday buffet

June 15, 2011 by nadel&gabel

It was only a few days before my fathers birthday party last weekend – a “small” one, only about 20 guests – that I had to realise that I was meant not only to help with all the preparations, but that I was supposed to plan and cook the whole buffet, with my sisters support. “Something mediterranean, but not too exotic” were my fathers instructions …  so that is what I made:

Categories: bread, dairy-free, grains & legumes, meat, salad, snacks & small dishes, spread, sauce & spice, vegetable, vegetarian • Tags: almond, anchovies, baking, börek, bell pepper, bread, caper, chicken, chickpea, cooking, couscous, feta cheese, food, italian, lemon, mayonnaise, mediterranean, olive oil, oriental, polenta, recipe, ricotta cheese, salad, sauce, spanish, tuna, veal, walnut
