Sock’n’Roll – A bunch of hand knitted socks

January 28, 2018 by nadel&gabel

Socks enjoy the reputation to be the least creative gift. I don’t think they are, obviously 😉 Cause I gave a pair of hand knitted socks to my dearest friends for Christmas! And although Christmas is already more than a month ago now, I wanted to share them here on the blog. Winter isn’t over yet and warm feet are still in great demand! Of course we are not talking about a simple pack of regular store bought socks, but […]

Patchwork – Another baby blanket

January 21, 2018 by nadel&gabel

Another newborn – another baby blanket. This time the idea I had in my mind was a clear, yet colourful blanket out of geometric shapes, patched together. So I went through my stash of fabrics, layed out different options, rearranged them again … until I was satisfied. I worked in blocks that I – step by step – put together. I also added some topstiching in corresponding colours. The patchworked front then was complemented with a light, but cuddly cotton […]

Keep the rhythm – Avocado dyed fabric and embroidered pincushion

June 2, 2017 by nadel&gabel

Somehow I didn’t really see it coming. It was a busy time, but I had the feeling that I’m coping well this time. I must have missed some early sign of my body. So the sign got louder, arrythmic. My heart had lost its rhythm somewhere on the way, I had lost my rhythm. I was eager to regain it, to find my beat again. What helped me (like most of the time): The calming power of nature, withdrawal from […]

One thing leads to another – Creative maker supply case

October 30, 2016 by nadel&gabel

The ones that follow me on instagram may have recognized that I’ve started a new longtime project: Handlettering. Although writing – mainly on chalkboard – is part of my daily routine, I’m definitely lacking a pretty handwriting. I had started a few rather piteous attempts in lettering, but this time, when I came across Frau Hölle and her tutorials I decided to keep up with more honesty and endurance … and professional equipment! And what can I say? – Langsam nährt […]

Ornamental christmas tradition – Springerle

December 6, 2015 by nadel&gabel

With christmas time – besides other things – I associate the following situation: I’m coming back to my parent’s home from the cold snowy outside, putting on my knitted socks, leaning my back to the tiled stove and warming my stiff cold fingers with a cup of hot tea. In between taking sips of the hot tea, I am dipping my Springerle cookie into it, let it soak and take a bite. Finally the fingers have warmed, the stomach as well, […]

First steps – Quilted baby blanket

July 3, 2015 by nadel&gabel

Here we go – another baby blanket since this knitted one (which is well loved, as I hear with pride). And I am aunt again! And while the little boy makes his first steps in this world (figuratively, of course), I have already successfully absolved my first quilting project. For a long time I’ve had in my mind to attempt this unconquered bastion of sewing. After buying helpful equipment like a cutting mat, a rotary cutter and a quilting ruler, […]

Into a structured new year – Free printable calendar 2015

December 14, 2014 by nadel&gabel

Christmas is coming closer and closer, final preparations are made, holiday menus are planned, cookies baked, last gifts bought and nicely wrapped … besides a lot of work and christmas party and market appointments. I’m happy that I nevertheless managed to get this calendar for 2015 ready before the new year begins and just in time to serve as christmas gift – for me and for you, my constant readers! Buy some heavy weight paper, turn on your printer, buy […]

Indigo shibori dyeing … and a tote, a clutch and a pouch

June 5, 2014 by nadel&gabel

I really do enjoy sewing. After a long break when I used my sewing machine only to trim new trousers, I realized this again. If you watched me while I am sewing you would probably not always  assume this – not seldom it is accompagnied with screams of annoyance when I’ve (again) attached two pieces of fabric just the wrong way … but then, when I finally hold a finished project in my hands, it’s all forgotten and I am […]

My work space IV: Storage and decoration

March 28, 2014 by nadel&gabel

May I invite you to another closer look around my redesigned working place? This time you will mainly see where I store all my stuff – perhaps we shouldn’t exaggerate and speak of “organization”… When I decided to swop my old massive wooden desk – from teenage times – for a new one I had the vision  of a lighter look around the place I am sitting about half of the day. I decided for a simple wooden desktop with […]
