Hidden colour schemes – Crocheted hot water bottle cover

October 3, 2014 by nadel&gabel

In the moment I loaded these pictures up I realized that all my recent posts are following the same colour scheme – mustard. Of course, it’s the colour of autumn, but I didn’t know how much I seam to be led by visual impressions. Hmm, perhaps I should start a new project: eating by colour 😉 Anyway, this post is not about food, but about my best friend around the cold season – my hot water bottle, that got a […]

Embrace autumn – Squash galette with gorgonzola and sage

September 28, 2014 by nadel&gabel

After realizing and accepting the end of summer, I’m now trying to embrace autumn and its seasonal produce. Sweet-nutty butternut squash is the star of this savoury galette. It’s accompagnied by one of the greatest flavour combinations: gorgonzola and sage. A umami herby bitter combo … that is on heavy rotation in our kitchen these days 😉 I also happened to have some bacon in the house and added a few slices of this as well – for an additional […]

Baked cosiness – Spicy pumpkin bundt cake with apples

September 20, 2014 by nadel&gabel

Every season has its cake (at least one!). This one is packed with autumnal produce like pumpkin and apple … accompagnied by the warming spices cinnamon – apples are hard to imagine without – ginger and nutmeg. Can a cake be described as cosy? – If yes, than this cake IS cosiness. It’s an easy to mix up cake, not too sweet, moist, flavourful and colourful – just the right thing to nibble with a cup of tea or coffee […]

Hello autumn – Pickled mushrooms with dill

September 11, 2014 by nadel&gabel

How did it come that autumn suddenly is here in full bloom? – Where was transition that made it easier for us to say good bye to summer once again? Speaking in farmers market display: When have cherries been sold? – How come the sudden presence of plums, pumpkins, mushrooms, apples? Whatever! – We have to accommodate. …And already when I sat at the airport of Stockholm this recipe for pickled mushrooms caught my eye. During our whole stay in […]

Fusion meal – Palak daal with roasted cauliflower, sesame mint dip and chapati bread

November 6, 2013 by nadel&gabel

This recipe is not only a singular dish, it is a whole menu, full of my favourite ingredients and flavours – obviously inspired by Indian as well as Arab cuisine. It’s a combination as well of different texture and temperature, that really works well: Crispy cold or lukewarm chapati bread, creamy warm roasted cauliflower, bread and cauliflower both with a nice smoky taste. This is paired with creamy sweet lentil and spinat daal and contrasting fresh nutty-tart sesame mint joghurt. […]

Flavourful – Autumnal lasagna with pumpkin and chanterelles

October 26, 2013 by nadel&gabel

Due to the fact that at the moment my days just seem to have not enough hours, this time here’s only a plain recipe – that I however didn’t want to hold back from you. It’s an lasagna packed with autumnal flavours of pumpkin and chantarelles. Spices like cinnamon, allspice, clove it perfectly pair with these. They also kind of anticipate the approaching winter with it’s warm scents. Autumnal lasagna with pumpkin and chanterelles (2-3p., 26 cm x 18 cm […]

At the heart of it – Artichoke lemon cream

October 14, 2013 by nadel&gabel

When I’ve been to the farmers market lately, I also took some artichokes home with me – not yet knowing how actually to prepare them. Somehow I remembered on my way back home that I had somewhere seen this artichoke pesto with sicilian lemon from PPura. I thought this could be THE idea for a longlasting source of indulgence. So I started to experiment… When buying the artichokes I succesfully pushed the fact aside that I have close to none […]

Ephemeral delight – Schiacciata all`uva

October 4, 2013 by nadel&gabel

It’s harvest season and I am – again – excited and paralysed at the same time. It’s always the same story: so many great seasonal produce before winters comes and there will be mainly cabbages and beets – both not my favourites. But where to start before they are gone? Chantarelles and porcini, artichoke, pumpkin, figs and grapes, apples, pears and quinces… Visiting the farmers market can freak you out! Worse: you see all those mouthwatering recipes on blogs, in […]

Mejadra – More than the sum of its parts

September 27, 2013 by nadel&gabel

You’ll tell me when you’re bored from Jerusalem-dishes? But this is such a flavourful but nevertheless everyday dish, that I had to post it. Ottolenghi and Tamimi got me when they told stories about family picnics where a big bowl of mejadra must not have been missing. And as I’m always into those (mostly simple) dishes that are packed full with the flavour of childhood memories, I had to try this lentil rice. The other reason was that I had […]
